The Music Academy at EMC is dedicated to advancing the development of musicians through a unique combination of intensive personal private instruction, educational programs and performance opportunities - all of the highest quality.
Our Facility
The Music Academy is conveniently situated in the Experimental Movement Concepts building in New Freedom - a 15,000 square foot space bustling with activities for children and families. The Music Academy currently has a group/ensemble studio, four individual private lesson studios, and a comfortable waiting space for parents which includes a restroom. The Music Academy will be expanding in the future to include an additional ensemble studio, a special sound-proofed percussion/drum set studio, and a space for Music Therapy.
Our Programs
Private lessons focus on a musician's individual technique. The students will receive one-on-one attention with one of our accomplished music faculty members. Student improvement will be seen within the following musical techniques: pitch, control, tempo, rhythmic interpretation, timbre, understanding musical terminology/symbols, etc. We offer private instruction for most band and orchestral instruments. Instruments included are: voice, piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar and drum set.
Each instrument has a recommended starting age. Please consult with our staff to find the right instrument and teacher for yourself, or your child.
Group Lessons & Ensembles
Musicians learn different musical abilities from playing and performing with other musicians. To help foster this development, The Music Academy offers group and ensemble classes. Currently, we are enrolling students in Musical Theatre (available through the EMC Dance Curriculum), Children's Chorus, The Black Jacks and Rock Band. Additional performing ensembles will be created as the need presents itself. Other ensembles may include, but are not limited to, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Broadway Repertoire Ensemble, and String Ensemble.
Performance Opportunities
In December, Music Academy students perform in a Holiday Recital in one of our spacious dance studios. Spring formal recitals will be held at The Woman's Club of York. EMC prides itself in allowing the students the chance to perform in this professional venue. Additional performance opportunities may include: Coffee-House/Open-Mic Nights held in one of EMC's spacious dance studios, community events, parades, retirement homes and art exhibits.

Spring Recital Testimonial
"Dear Ladies, I wanted to compliment you on a beautiful day. The building's atmosphere made it so very special. The piano was lovely. It is always a thrill for us to see all the students perform. Thank you again! "
